Players are free to tune brakes and more, as well as swap out everything from engines and tires to sprockets, handlebars and seats. For those invested in the sports, the tuning and dealership sections can be like walking into a dealer itself. Rider customization is a big deal as well, with players free to swap out small, appearance-based things like goggles. Players can build a slyly named B.R.A.A.P., a tool for building a rider and A.I. All Out does an outstanding job on tutorials for those who take the time to seek them out in free roam at the compound. Tuning, especially on bikes, doesn’t always feel natural, though some of this is surely attributed to a complex control scheme. But bikes and other vehicles are responsive, and the vibration of feedback is a good way to learn on the fly.
There is a steep learning curve at first if players are serious about bringing home top-three performances in a series. Opencross, waypoint and freestyle have more of an arcade feel and offer different experiences that enhance replayability. Events like supercross and national have more of a simulation feel. There’s certainly something for everyone in this regard. All Out attempts to walk the tightrope between simulation and arcade racer when on the track. Figuring out the controls and pulling off tricks is a big element of the first ride, though the compound later becomes a place to show off a player’s collection.
Traversing the map on a bike initially, players can pull off big jumps or stick to a defined course while going over varying terrain. Players get immediately dropped into an open-world compound upon starting the game and are free to roam. Race types include Supercross, Nationals, Opencross Freestyle and my favorite, Waypoint, where it doesn’t so much matter how well you can run a clean line on the track as it does that you can actually jump over an entire ridge and land on your feet as you carve your own path through the course to the various checkpoints you need to sail through to claim victory.

In MX vs ATV All Out you have a lot of options for how to play.
It’s a great chance to get your feet wet with the feel of the vehicle you’re using, and in an even smarter move by Rainbow and THQ Nordic, you’re not forced to drive from one tutorial or event to another if you don’t want to and can simply select what you’re trying to do from the menu instead if you’re itching to race and dispense with aimless driving. It gets you on the bike right away, and are dropped right into a free range course you can toy around in aimlessly until you feel like completing the tutorials and events. ATV All Out right away was its open world tutorial hub. In fact, Rainbow, who with THQ Nordic was responsible for all out claims they were the original off road racing team and “pioneers in rider-bike physics. MX vs ATV All Out is a game with a legacy behind it.
